Overview:

Biomol International, LP, a biochemical manufacturing and sales firm based outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and London, England has over 2,500 products available for sale to customers in the United States, Canada, UK and Ireland, and distributors throughout the world.

In 2003 Biomol engaged NetReach to redesign and re-architect their site with a fresh, contemporary look using a reorganized interface to make it’s extensive product inventory both easy to navigate and search. At the same time, NetReach migrated the Biomol site to more up-to-date .NET server technologies using cmScribe—NetReach’s content management software.

Mission Critical:

The adoption of the cmScribe content management system in 2003, gave Biomol staff three important business critical web functions. Staff were now able to:

  • Add and edit content and new products
  • Receive online orders, and
  • Manage project fulfillment via a commerce manager.

cmScribe helped Biomol self-manage their site, create internal efficiencies and reduced their cost for fulfillment.

Building On Success:

Over the next three years, cmScribe’s flexible architecture allowed Biomol to commission, and NetReach to deploy the following enhancements and customizations to this dynamic e-commerce site:

  • Product Search that allows for searching of Greek letters used in chemical names throughout the product catalog. In addition, special programming was done to allow a user to enter the word "alpha" and return all products that use either "alpha" or the Greek alpha character (α) in the product name or description

  • Web-to-Print Catalog Export functionality takes the entire product catalog, or a subset of the catalog, from the SQL database into an Adobe® InDesign® CS2 -ready template file. Learn more about the Web-to-Print feature.

  • Enhancements to the shopping cart and ecommerce system to allow for storing of multiple addresses (mailing, billing, shipping) per registered customer, splitting orders to allow for back orders, and to add and delete items.

  • Implemented order management features that allow Biomol to track orders through their lifecycle and various statuses such as pending, fulfilled, shipped, cancelled, returned, and backordered.

  • Bulk emailing directly from the website with access to customers who have signed up for the mailing list coming directly from the database. Biomol can create, store, and send HTML or text e-mail announcements, newsletters, and specials offerings to all or a portion of their customer base at will.

  • Customers can retrieve forgotten passwords via email notification.

  • International pricing allows product pricing to be displayed, and orders to be submitted, in US dollars, British pounds sterling or Euros based on the customer's country of record when logged into the site. New currencies can be added and are automatically incorporated into the page display and order functionality.

  • View product pricing without logging in simply by choosing a country of interest on the product description page. A cookie is maintained on the customer's browser to remember the country of choice on future visits.
